Preserve and promote Iranian culture and customs
The Bazaar is held the weekend before the Iranian new year, Nowrooz (New Day). Each year,
the Iranian new year falls on the 20th or 21st of March which coincides with the begining of Spring.
Attending the Bazaar, enables the whole community to participate in the arrival of Spring and the new year's
celebration with music, dancing, Iranian food and sweets.
Activities are organized for children as well as adults and the presence of Haji Firooz adds joy to the festivities.
IAS members and volunteers spend the months of Jan. and Feb. making articles for the Sufreh Haft Seen and using old family recipes
to prepare pastries, jams and relishes that are not available anywhere else.
These are purchased with much joy - everyone wants to start the new year with the best Sufre Haft Seen.
